01 Who We Are
Nearplay is an iOS application developed and operated by Remembr LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 16355328). We are committed to being transparent about how we handle your data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it when you use the Nearplay app.
02 What We Collect
Nearplay collects only the data necessary to provide its core functionality — automatically triggering Apple Music playback as you approach saved destinations. We collect:
- Location data (while the app is in use or running in the background)
- Apple Music library and playback information (via MusicKit, with your permission)
- Calendar event data (optional — only if you choose to add destinations from your calendar)
- Contacts data (optional — only if you choose to add destinations from your contacts)
- Account data via Sign in with Apple or email/password through Firebase Authentication
- Destination Drop data you create within the app (names, locations, linked tracks)
- Subscription and purchase status (processed entirely by Apple)
We do not collect or store the contents of your Apple Music library on our servers. MusicKit operates on-device and playback is handled directly by Apple.
03 Apple Music Integration
Nearplay integrates with Apple Music via Apple's MusicKit framework. When you grant Apple Music access, the app can:
- Browse and search your Apple Music library and catalogue
- Play tracks, albums, and playlists at trigger points you define
- Read your recently played and library content to help you find tracks quickly
Apple Music access is managed entirely through iOS permissions. We do not transmit your Apple Music library data to our servers. All playback is handled by the native MusicKit framework on your device.
04 Location Data
Location is the core of what Nearplay does. To detect when you approach a saved destination and trigger playback at the right moment, Nearplay requires access to your device location.
- While Using the App: Used to show your position relative to Destination Drops.
- Background Location: Required so Nearplay can monitor your proximity to destinations even when the app is not in the foreground. You will be asked to grant "Always" location permission for this to work.
Your location is processed on-device to calculate distances to your Destination Drops. Precise location coordinates are not stored on our servers beyond what is necessary to deliver the service.
You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Nearplay. Revoking this permission will disable proximity-based playback triggers.
05 Calendar Access
Calendar access is entirely optional. If you choose to create a Destination Drop from a calendar event, Nearplay will request permission to read your device calendars.
- We only read events that have a location field populated
- Calendar data is used solely to pre-fill the destination name and address when creating a Drop
- We do not store your calendar data on our servers beyond the destination details you explicitly save
- Calendar access is a Premium feature
You can revoke calendar access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars → Nearplay.
06 Contacts Access
Contacts access is entirely optional. If you choose to create a Destination Drop from a contact, Nearplay will request permission to read your device contacts.
- We only display contacts that have at least one address saved
- Contact data is used solely to pre-fill the destination name and address when creating a Drop
- We do not store your contacts data on our servers beyond the destination details you explicitly save
- Free users may save up to 2 Destination Drops created from contacts
You can revoke contacts access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts → Nearplay.
07 Authentication & Account Data
Nearplay uses Firebase Authentication (provided by Google) to manage user accounts. You can sign in using:
- Sign in with Apple: Apple handles authentication and may share your name and email address with us. You may choose to hide your email using Apple's relay service.
- Email & Password: Your email address and a securely hashed password are stored in Firebase Authentication.
We store your user ID, email address, and subscription status in Firebase Firestore in order to sync your Destination Drops and manage your account. Firebase is operated by Google — see Firebase Privacy for details.
08 How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect solely to provide and improve Nearplay:
- To trigger Apple Music playback when you approach a Destination Drop
- To sync your Destination Drops to your account
- To manage your subscription tier and unlock Premium features
- To improve app reliability and fix bugs
- To communicate with you about your account if necessary
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
09 Sharing Your Data
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share limited data with third parties only where necessary to operate the service:
- Apple: For Apple Music access (MusicKit), Sign in with Apple, and App Store subscription processing.
- Google Firebase: For user authentication and Firestore database storage of your Destination Drops and account data.
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
10 Data Retention
We retain your account and Destination Drop data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed from our systems within 30 days. You can delete your account at any time from within the Nearplay app.
11 Your Rights
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict our processing of your data
- Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@nearplay.live. We will respond within 30 days.
12 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. Continued use of Nearplay after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
